Hatha Yoga

Hatha Yoga invites you to move through postures (asanas) and sequences designed to align your skin, muscles, and bones. The postures/asana are also designed to open the many channels of the body, particularly the main channel, the spine – so that energy can flow freely.  Focusing on alignment and safety you will explore both movement and stillness through heat building and cooling (yang/yin) postures.

Gentle Yoga

Gentle yoga is suitable for all levels including beginners.  This class focuses on fundamental yoga postures (asana), breathing and mindful stillness.  Gentle yoga is geared towards those wishing to move at a slower pace.

Mat Pilates

Joseph Pilates defined a series of specific exercises to be performed individually on a mat without aid or assistance from machinery, simply using one’s own body weight to challenge muscular recruitment and strength. Mat Pilates invites the possibility of enhancing physical strength, flexibility, and coordination as well as reducing stress, improving mental focus, and fostering an improved sense of well-being. The foundation principles of Pilates are breath, concentration, control, precision, flow and finding one’s own centre of gravity.

Restorative Yoga

Restorative classes by nature induce deep states of relaxation allowing the body to restore and renew energy systems, muscular vitality and connective tissues. The use of ‘props’ such as cushions, blocks, bolsters and folded blankets, support the body in deeply relaxing poses that are generally held anywhere from 7-15 minutes.  By settling into fully supported, passive poses for longer periods, the body is invited to open and all organs and systems of the body are benefited. Some of the benefits of deep relaxation are the reduction of blood pressure, improvement in digestion, circulation, elimination, the reduction of muscle tension, insomnia and fatigue.
Restorative yoga is the perfect complement to your more active practices.

Tensegrity

The word Tensegrity was first coined as an ‘architectural’ term combining two words: tension & integrity. Developed by Gioia Irwin, the Tensegrity Repair Series is a mindful sequence of movements designed to move the joint spaces in the body through ‘neutral’ enhancing strength and tone, increasing mobility and flexibility and bringing an awareness of the connection between core and limbs. What is embodied through this sequence leads to intelligent movement in all practices.

Yin Yoga

Yin Yoga is known as a cooling practice. This gentle, meditative class invites opening into tight areas in the body and improves flexibility. Yin Yoga emphasizes holding postures for 3 to 5 minutes to access the dense fibrous ligaments, and other connective tissues of the joints. Postures are non-weight bearing, typically practiced in a seated or laying position. The intention is to encourage circulation in less flexible areas, to lengthen and release deep connective tissue, especially in the joints closest to the core of the body: the hips, lower back, and shoulders.

Somatic Yoga

Through gentle movements, somatic yoga effectively releases pain and invites flexibility.  In this subtle, slow paced practice, muscle to brain awareness is enhanced, raising overall body awareness to self heal tension based patterns, resulting in a feeling of ease and wellbeing.

Yoga Nidra

Yoga Nidra is a guided practice of deep and effortless relaxation, based in the ancient teachings of yoga. Yoga Nidra helps you disengage from addictive patterns and unplugs you from the degenerative cycle of stress.

Meditation

Whether you have been engaged in a meditation practice for years or have yet to explore meditation, we invite you to join us for this half hour of mindful stillness.  Bring your curiosity, let go of any preconceived ideas of what meditation is or is not and come explore what meditation might be for you. With practice, learn to slow down and become witness to the overwhelming activity of the mind.  When we invite stillness, we have the opportunity to tap in to the body’s own intelligence and wisdom, bringing clarity and a deep state of peace.   No Charge
